A symbol is something that represents something significant without being specific or literal. 2. What kinds of objects might an artist include in a still life? List at least three: An artist might include objects like a canvas, paint or a paint brush. 3. Name one theme sometimes expressed in a still life. Themes that are sometimes expressed in a still life is peace or mindfulness. 4. In your own words, define "self portrait": A self portrait is a tribute to yourself using art. A self portrait embodies you whether it is a painting, photograph or still life. 5. Choose one object used in your still life, and describe what it symbolizes (go deeper than "The soccer ball symbolizes my love for soccer"). An object in my still life that means a lot to me are the mole skin notebooks. I love to write my feelings down to help channel some sort of control during times of stress. |

1. In your own words, define "necessity."
A necessity is something that you require to continue living a healthy life.
2. In your own words, define "luxury."
A luxury is something that you don't need but you would like to own.
3. List the material items you possess that you consider a necessity (aside from food, water, shelter, air).
Hygienic products, headphones and books are things that I would like to consider necessities.
4. List the material items you possess that you consider a luxury.
A luxury would be expensive electronics and even expensive food.
5. Choose one item from your list of necessities and make an argument for why you can live without it.
I can live without headphones. Music is very important to me but without it there are so many other things to be conscious of Every day sounds that we over look or situations we take for granted because we have our headphones in.
6. Explain why the item from question 5 is a necessity.
It is a necessity because music is a healthy for of self expression and also a mood changer. Headphones let you keep to yourself in places where it may be inappropriate to play loud music. You can always be yourself if you have music.
A consumer is a person who purchases goods and services for personal use.
7. Can a person consume too much (in terms of material goods, not just food)?
Yes, a person can consume too much.
8. How does consumption negatively impact the city/country/world?
This can be very negative because it leads us to the closed minded state of materialism.
9. How does consumption positively impact the city/country/world?
It is positive because we gain a lot as a society. Through technology and material we have the ability to do a lot of things.
